Official Constitutional Text
121. The quorum of Parliament shall be––
(a) fifty members, in the case of the National Assembly; or
(b) fifteen members, in the case of the Senate.
Plain English Explanation
This is a simplified summary to explain this article in clear language. It is not the legal text of the Constitution.
Article 121 of the Kenyan Constitution establishes the minimum number of members required to legally conduct official business in either house of Parliament. It sets the statutory quorum at exactly fifty members for the National Assembly and exactly fifteen members for the Senate. If the number of lawmakers present falls below these specific counts, no official debates can occur, and no votes can be taken.
